The political cartoon displays the classical battle of states’ rights. This cartoon was drawn around the time California passed the act of 215, which legalized the medicinal use of cannabis. This is in complete contradiction in with federal laws, which makes it a schedule 1 drug. A schedule 1 drugs defined by the federal government are drugs that have no medicinal value like heroin. The picture illustrates the constant everlasting battle of states rights. As Thomas Jefferson said, “If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.”

The source is very useful in displaying an image to those who aren’t aware of the battle of states rights. This source is very reliable and gives a voice beyond the medicinal use and into the freedom of choice. Compared with other sources it allows for a more visual perspective of what the peple think of cannabis other that the fed’s or doctors opinions.
